The Department of Mines and Geology has directed the concerned licensee not to carry out mining activities in the gold exploration license area in a manner contrary to the approved work plan after the issuance of the exploration license. The department issued a notice on Falgun 17, stating that if mining activities are carried out without complying with the prescribed conditions, the license will be cancelled.

'It has come to our attention that information has been received from various media outlets and the concerned municipalities and administrations that gold exploration activities have been carried out in a manner contrary to the approved work plan after the issuance of the exploration license in the gold exploration license area, using large equipment and machinery, changing the flow of the river and polluting it, and that exploration activities have been carried out using foreign techniques different from the consultant's techniques,' the notice states.

According to Section 11 (a) of the Mines and Minerals Act, 2042, there is a provision to take action if various activities are carried out in a manner that does not adversely affect the environment. According to Rule 11 of the Mines and Minerals Regulations, 2056, it is stated that exploration work cannot be carried out without complying with the conditions to be followed while carrying out exploration work.

According to the provision of Clause (d) of Rule 43 of the same Regulation, there is a provision that there may be an adverse impact on public interest or national security or the environment. There is also a provision that if mining work is carried out without complying with the conditions specified in Clause (e) of the same Regulation, the license will be cancelled. 'The concerned licensee has been instructed not to carry out mining work illegally in violation of the prevailing legal provisions,' the department said.
