A motorable bridge on the Parbat section of the Kaligandaki Highway has been completed after eight years.

The construction of the Lamaekhola Motorable Bridge located in Devisthan, Falebas Municipality-6 and Ward-10, Kurgha, has been completed in eight years. The Kaligandaki Highway is a national pride project connecting the north and south.

Even after the construction of the road from Mirmi in Syangja to Armadi in Kushma Municipality-4 in Parbat under the highway, direct transportation could not be possible as the Lamaekhola bridge could not gain speed. The road from Mirmi in Syangja to Lamaekhola has been blacktopped. After the construction of the bridge, the travel time and distance of vehicles have been reduced.

‘Without the bridge, we had to travel a long way to reach Kushma via Chirdikhola, about 10 kilometers more,’ said Hari Neupane of Bihadi, ‘Now the journey has become easier for every passenger, from tourists reaching Kushma, Baglung, Mustang to Syangja, Palpa and Butwal.’ The locals around are happy after the construction of the bridge. They are optimistic that the declining business will pick up again.

Gangadhar Tiwari, the mayor of Phalebas Municipality, said that even though the bridge has been completed, the work of blacktopping the road from Devisthan to Armadi is still pending. ‘The contract for blacktopping has also been awarded,’ he said. ‘There was a small landslide on the road near the bridge, we have removed it and now we can use the bridge for vehicles.’

An agreement was reached on Asad 28, 2074 to complete it in two years. The construction of the bridge began on December 19, 2075. The construction work had been repeatedly obstructed due to disputes from the initial stage. In Asad, the construction of the structure on both sides of the bridge was completed and preparations were being made for the slab slope, when the flood of Lamaekhola washed away the construction materials of the bridge.

The responsibility for the construction of the bridge to be built at a cost of Rs 58.989 million and 277 thousand was given to the Naya Bato Gauchan JV Construction Company. The company had given the responsibility to the subcontractor Deepjyoti Nirman Sewa. The bridge is 25 meters long and 11 meters wide.

Kaligandaki Highway (Gaidakot-Ramdi-Maldhunga) Road Plan, Palpa manages the Kaligandaki Highway. It is about 53 kilometers from Mirmi in Syangja to Armadi via Setibeni-Bachha-Kurgha-Phalebas in Parbat.

This project will serve as a road connecting the Mid-Pahadi Highway, Madan Bhandari Highway and Mahendra Highway. Mayor Tiwari said that this road is very important as it will connect places of religious importance such as Devghat, Ridi, Setibeni, Muktinath and Damodar Kund.
