Litmus Industries Limited, Nepal's largest wire, cable and conductor manufacturer, has secured a significant contract from India's Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) for the supply of high-capacity power transmission lines.
PGCIL is the central power transmission company of India, which operates the country's inter-state and cross-border electricity transmission network. As per the agreement, Litmus Industries will manufacture and supply 2,799 km of 400 kV ACSR moose conductors. These conductors will be used in the Deeding-Dhalkebar cross-border power transmission line project in Nepal and Bathnaha in India. The said transmission line is related to the 900 MW Arun-3 hydropower project.
This is the first time that 400 kV ACSR moose conductors are being manufactured in Nepal. This marks a significant milestone in the country's technological and industrial capacity,' the company said in a statement.
The Power Grid Corporation of India (PGI) has conducted a thorough evaluation of Litmus Industries' factory before approving the project, the company said. The statement said that during this process, the production process, production capacity, quality control and testing system, as well as the overall factory infrastructure were reviewed. ‘After this thorough evaluation, Litmus Industries has been approved as the only Nepali manufacturer eligible to supply conductors for the project,’ the statement said. ‘It is a matter of pride for Nepal that Litmus has been selected in this way in an international competition.’
The Dhalkebar-Bathnaha transmission line is a major cross-border connection related to the Arun-3 Hydropower Project, one of Nepal’s important energy projects. ‘This 900 MW capacity project is expected to strengthen Nepal’s energy security. It is believed to support industrial development and expand electricity trade between Nepal and India,’ the statement said.
Litmus Industries Limited, a Ramesh Corp group company, has been manufacturing wires, cables and conductors in Nepal for more than four decades since 1977.
