Neither the pothole was filled nor the landslide was moved away in the Baglung section of the mid-hills.

Locals complain that some of the roads that have been built are washed away during the rainy season and are no longer in their original condition. The road towards Galkot was blacktopped six years ago, but despite repeated repairs, it has not become sustainable.

In some places, the work on the Baglung section of the Mid-Hill Highway has not been completed, the roads that have been built have collapsed and are dilapidated. In some places, locals have complained that the roads have become ugly due to potholes.

Unnatural blacktopped patches are visible on the road from Ghodabandhe to Galkot Municipality in Kathekhola Rural Municipality-5 in Baglung. The road at the site of the landslide is still intact. The Highway Project Office has not yet taken any action to remove the landslide.

The road has been abandoned in the Bihun section for years. It is not certain when the road will be completed. The contractor, who has been working since 2072, has a tendency to leave it abandoned after doing some work every winter. Locals complain that even some of the roads that have been completed are washed away during the rainy season and returned to their original condition. The road towards Galkot was blacktopped 6 years ago, but despite repeated repairs, it has not been made sustainable.

The road has collapsed at two roundabouts around Chauraha and Jhankristhan, making it dangerous for vehicles to drive on. The road in Bhalumare, which is on the border of Galkot Municipality-9 and 11, has also collapsed and has not been repaired for two years. The road section from Hatiya to Kharwang is full of potholes.

Galkot Municipality-9 Chairman Tej Bahadur Thapa said that potholes are a problem for small vehicles. ‘The road within our municipality is dilapidated, the municipality’s budget cannot be maintained, the highway has been left dilapidated for years,’ he said, ‘Since the public hearing, service recipients who come to the ward

repeatedly ask about the condition of this road, but we have not been able to tell them anything.’ He said that Beruju is coming while the municipality is investing, and the highway is not interested.

Recently, not only the residents of West Baglung but also passengers from Rukum, Rolpa, Jajarkot, Dolpa and Dailekh have been crossing this road section. The road is collapsing and becoming dilapidated as hundreds of vehicles start plying daily. The state’s investment has been increased after the road that was open to Burtiwang at that time was listed as a mid-hill highway.

But some work has not been completed due to the negligence of contractors, while in some places the highway has already been handed over to the road division. But the road construction work has not been done according to the road standards. In addition, the potholes here have not been filled, making the journey difficult.

Although most of the road sections from Burtiwang to Nisi via Rukum are easy, in Nisikhola Rural Municipality, the number of houses being built on the road has increased.

Due to this, the road has become narrow. Road accidents also occur daily. If the road standards cannot be maintained immediately, the road will become extremely narrow, says Kubir BK, Chairman of Nisikhola Rural Municipality-2.

The road from the district headquarters to Bihun section is being delayed due to the negligence of the contractor. After the locals took the initiative to block the road and get the work done, some speed has been gained. But the locals are still not convinced that the work on this road will be completed on time. As much as the locals are angry about the failure of this section to be completed, they are also angry about the dilapidated Galkot section, which has been built many times. They have also repeatedly drawn the attention of the state.

Due to the delay in the work of the project that started in 2068 BS, passengers have had to suffer. The locals are also facing problems while the road is being built at the road level. Locals like Amar Secondary School, Bhimsen Secondary School, Kholatir Basic School, Himalaya Basic School, Laligurans Boarding School, and even the health posts of Kathekhola 5 and 6 are suffering from road problems.

The Mid-Hill Highway is 142 km long within Baglung. Of that, 25 km is not blacktopped, and about 40 km is dilapidated and has potholes even after blacktopping. Rishi Gautam, an engineer at the Mid-Hill Highway Project Office, claims that the potholes in the road have been filled and a contractor has been hired to do the work.
