Despite the problems of open borders and illegal imports, the Nepalgunj Customs Office has succeeded in collecting customs revenue of Rs 10.88 billion 30 lakhs as of Magh 11 of the current fiscal year.
This information was given at a program organized on the occasion of the 74th World Customs Day on January 26. This is 41 percent of the annual target and 80 percent of the monthly target.
Speaking at a program organized by the Nepalgunj Customs Office on the occasion of Customs Day, Banke Chief District Officer Dil Kumar Tamang emphasized that the Customs Office should not only collect revenue but also organize the international market.
Chief Customs Officer Janardan Poudel said that despite the challenges of open borders and increasing smuggling, the customs revenue has been collected close to the target. He said, ‘We have been able to collect 10 billion 88 lakh 30 thousand customs revenue till Magh 11 of the current fiscal year.’
Among the goods produced in Nepal, plywood and herbs are imported, while rice, petroleum products, iron, machinery and other goods are imported through Nepalgunj Customs, informed Chief Customs Officer Poudel.
On the occasion of Customs Day, a street play against customs evasion and import, awareness-raising orientation for rickshaw drivers, and certificates and prizes were distributed to participants of various competitive programs.
On the occasion of Customs Day, Ganga Rosin and Turpentine, which exports the most, and Nepal Oil Corporation, Jai Ambe Steel Industry, and Devati Gutkha Industry, which exports the most, were honored.
