Nepal Oil Corporation has estimated that the consumption of petroleum products, including petrol and diesel, will increase by up to 25 percent due to election-focused activities.
Executive Director of the Corporation, Chandika Prasad Bhatta, said that the Oil Corporation is going to instruct all depots to store enough fuel for the elections, just like during festivals. He said that preparations have been made to instruct each depot to keep enough stock as consumption will increase due to the elections.
Director Bhatta said that an average of about 20/25 lakh liters of petrol and 38/40 lakh liters of diesel are currently being consumed, and estimated that consumption will increase by 20 to 25 percent just 10 days before the elections.
The Corporation is increasing preparations to keep stocks for that period as the border crossings will be closed for a few days during the elections. Director Bhatta said, “During the elections, we will be a little careful and keep our tankers and available storage houses fully filled according to how many days the border will be closed.”
He said that the Corporation currently has the capacity to store diesel for about 14 days and petrol for about 12 days.
