The Society of Economic Journalists of Nepal (SEJN) has provided health and group accident insurance to all its members. SEJN has provided health insurance worth one lakh rupees to each member, for a total of seven lakh rupees worth of group accident insurance coverage.
Anju Shrestha, CEO of Himalayan Everest Insurance, formally handed over the insurance policy to Bhagwat Bhattarai, Chairman of Sejan, for health and accident insurance.
At the agreement ceremony, Shrestha, CEO of Himalayan Everest Insurance, said that it was a matter of happiness to provide insurance services to Sejan members through her organization. She believed that it was necessary to bring all Nepalis under the insurance coverage and mentioned that the importance of insurance has not yet been adequately explained to the citizens.
'The damage has not been minimized due to the failure to properly explain the benefits of insurance,' she said. 'As an umbrella organization of journalists writing in the economic sector, Sejan can play an important role in explaining the importance and benefits of insurance to the general public.'
Sejan has provided health insurance worth about 159.6 million rupees through Himalayan Everest Insurance Company, giving priority to the health and safety of its members, Chairman Bhattarai said.
Under the health insurance scheme, Sejon members will get insurance benefits as soon as they are admitted to the hospital. The insurance will provide coverage of up to Rs 15,000 for minor surgery, Rs 30,000 for emergency surgery and Rs 40,000 for major surgery.
In addition, Chairman Bhattarai informed that bed charges, doctor's fees and drug treatment expenses incurred after admission to the hospital will also be included in the insurance coverage.
Under the group accident insurance, Sejon members will get coverage of up to Rs 700,000 in case of physical damage due to an accident alone. Sejon has stated that a facility of up to Rs 700,000 will also be available as treatment expenses in case of hospitalization due to an accident.
According to Chairman Bhattarai, this insurance policy has been implemented and all members affiliated with the organization will be able to benefit from it for the next one year. Speaking at the program, Chairman Bhattarai said, 'We have been working on enhancing the professional capacity of all our members, which will always be maintained. Considering the sensitivity of the health of the members, this time we have insured all the members from the organization's funds.'
