Nawaraj Dhakal, Executive Director of the Alternative Energy Promotion Center, has said that mobilization of international financial resources will be extremely important to achieve ambitious goals related to renewable energy.
At the 16th meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi, Dhakal said that the total estimated cost required to achieve Nepal's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets by 2035 is 73.74 billion US dollars. He also informed that about 85 percent of this is estimated to be met from international climate finance and assistance.
A four-member delegation including Nepal's Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Tej Bahadur Chhetri, Executive Director of the Alternative Energy Promotion Center, Dhakal, Consul and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Nepali Embassy in Abu Dhabi and First Secretary are participating in the 16th meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency.
Dhakal, Executive Director of the Center, informed that Nepal's energy development roadmap has adopted the goal of expanding the country's electricity generation capacity to 28,500 megawatts by 2035, increasing per capita energy consumption to 1,500 kilowatt-hours per year, and exporting 15,000 megawatts of electricity by that period.
More than 1,500 delegates from 171 countries around the world are participating. The meeting focuses on contemporary and long-term issues such as regional energy transformation, power grids needed to strengthen energy systems, long-term energy planning, digital innovation and the use of artificial intelligence (AI), sustainable aviation fuels and finance, the contribution of renewable energy to agriculture and food systems, and green industrialization.
The meeting is expected to accelerate the global energy transformation and make a significant contribution towards achieving inclusive, sustainable, and shared prosperity through renewable energy.
