Only 7.5 billion rupees of foreign investment was received in five months

Foreign direct investment (equity) of Rs 7.5 billion has been inflowed in the first five months of the current fiscal year. According to the monthly data released by Nepal Rastra Bank, this amount has been inflowed. In the first five months of the last fiscal year, foreign direct investment (equity) of Rs 6.3 billion had been inflowed.

Nepal Rastra Bank data shows that foreign direct investment of Rs 4.98 billion was received in Mangsir alone. Which is 260 percent more than the investment commitment. According to the Department of Industry, investment commitments of Rs 1.91 billion were received in Mangsir.

Nepal Rastra Bank data shows that despite the increase in foreign investment commitments, the amount received is low. Stakeholders say that there is no policy framework that all foreign investment commitments should or should not come in the same period.

Stakeholders also say that the government allows investors to invest in phases (in installments) when approving foreign investment. Government officials also say that the commitment and approved amount are not received all at once.

In the five months of the current fiscal year, only Rs 7.47 billion has been received out of the Rs 38.59 billion FDI commitment. The data shows that only 19 percent of the investment received in Shrawan-Mangsir compared to the commitment.
