The Birgunj branch of the Food Management and Trading Company Limited has purchased 6,35 quintals of 30 kg of rice as of Thursday. Munilal Kushwaha, information officer of the branch, said that the purchase of rice started from Poush 6 and this quantity of rice was purchased as of Monday.
He said that the branch has started purchasing rice from farmers through the token system since this year, and as of Thursday, 159 tokens have been purchased in this quantity.
He said that while tokens are distributed to farmers at the rate of 40 quintals of rice purchase, rice is being purchased at an average rate of 37 quintals. Some farmers have brought 40 and some less than that.
He said that after the implementation of the token system, rice purchase and sale is being done in an organized manner instead of being crowded like in the previous year. Kushwaha says that 275 tokens have been distributed to farmers from the office for rice purchase.
He said that rice purchase is planned to be completed by Magh 6 this year, and if rice is purchased in this ratio, rice will be purchased within the targeted period. So far, farmers have brought rice for sale from Parsa, Bara and Rautahat districts. Farmers from Sarlahi have also taken tokens.
This year, the branch has received a quota of 10,000 quintals of paddy. This year too, the branch is purchasing only Sona Mansuli paddy. The support price of Sona Mansuli paddy has been fixed by the federal government at Rs 3,628.33 per quintal this year, so the branch is also purchasing at the same price.
Last year, the branch had received a quota of 42,000 quintals of paddy. But after getting a good price from the private sector, farmers did not come to the branch to sell the targeted quantity of paddy.
