The National Statistics Office has begun preparations for the second economic census. The office is going to conduct the economic census from Chaitra 1 to mid-Asard with the slogan ‘Economic Census for Measuring the Economy’.

The office released the schedule, logo and slogan of the economic census on Monday.

The first economic census was conducted in April 2075. The second economic census will include details ranging from economic details to production from industries. The economic census will visit establishments and look at the state of industry and employment creation in Nepal. According to the office, 5,000 enumerators are being appointed for the economic census. The national economic census plans to collect details related to the number, type, investment, employment, production and service delivery of industries, trade, business, service sector, cooperatives and private-public institutions. The office will collect basic details of 18 different sectors.

Kamal Prasad Pokharel, Chief Statistics Officer of the Statistics Office, said that this census will be important to know the status of the sectors involved in economic transactions. He said, "The status of units engaged in economic activities will be identified and it will also help the government in formulating future action plans." The economic census will provide information for all future work, from price increases, employment status, opportunities to manpower requirements.’

Deputy Chief Statistical Officer of the Statistics Office, Lamichhane, said that the contribution of each sector to the economy and its growth rates will be visible from the economic census, adding that this will form the basis for determining which areas the state’s policies should focus on more.

In the first national economic census of 2075, 923,356 establishments and businesses were counted across the country. Details of 3228,457 people involved in these establishments and businesses were made public. Details of about 30 percent of women managers in these establishments and businesses were also made public from this census.
