The District Fertilizer Management Committee has written to the Agricultural Materials Company Limited Provincial Office, Bhairahawa, Rupandehi to take action against the cooperative that sells subsidized fertilizer to traders.
Fulbari Sana Kisan Krishi Sahakari Sanstha Limited, located in Malarani Rural Municipality-6, Arghakhanchi, had purchased 102 bags of fertilizer from Agricultural Materials Company Limited Bhairahawa on December 1. On December 2, the police recovered the fertilizer while it was hidden in a Manoj grocery store located in Pachehara, Ward No. 10, Kapilvastu Municipality.
Based on the police report, a meeting held on December 2 under the chairmanship of Fertilizer Management Committee Coordinator and Assistant Chief District Officer Padam Lamichhane decided to take action against the sellers selling subsidized fertilizer as per the Subsidized Fertilizer Distribution Management Procedure, 2082. As per the committee's decision, the district-based Fertilizer Management Committee wrote to the Provincial Office of Agricultural Materials on December 2 for action. The police report states that the fertilizer provided to farmers in their area was sold to a grocery store contrary to the procedure. According to the police report and the document, the committee coordinator Lamichhane said that a letter was sent to the seller cooperative with a decision to investigate and take action as per the procedure.
Gorakhnath Baniya was arrested on Poush 25 with 40 bags of urea and 62 bags of DAP fertilizer while hiding them in a grocery store. Police had fixed the value of 166,000 and sent Baniya to the Revenue Investigation Office Butwal for necessary action. Police said that the seized fertilizer was sold to the grocery store by the agricultural cooperative at a higher price.
Assistant District Officer Padam Lamichhane said that agricultural cooperatives that are black-marketed with subsidized fertilizer and work against the procedure are being kept under surveillance. According to him, since urea and DAP fertilizer are not used much in the hills, cooperatives that have received quotas of subsidized fertilizer are selling the fertilizer in the Terai at a higher price.
