In the first five months of the current fiscal year, pickles worth Rs 82.488 crore have been exported. In the same period last fiscal year, pickles worth Rs 95.693 crore were exported.
According to the Customs Department, Nepal has exported 140,304 kg of pickles to various countries. Pickles have been exported to Canada, Australia, South Korea, Japan, America, Italy, Britain, Belgium, Denmark and Malaysia.
The highest amount of pickles worth Rs 19.442 crore has been exported to Canada, and Rs 19.319 crore has been exported to Australia. Korea has exported Rs 12.2536 crore, Japan has exported Rs 9.349 crore, America has exported Rs 8.426 crore, Italy has exported Rs 6.318 crore, Britain has exported Rs 3.688 crore, Belgium has exported Rs 2.648 crore.
The lowest amount of pickles worth Rs 355,000 has been exported to Malaysia, while Rs 488,000 has been exported to Denmark.
Last year, Nepal had exported pickles to Australia, America, Italy, Japan, Canada, Belgium, Britain, Denmark, Korea and Malaysia. The highest amount of pickles worth Rs 34.4 million was exported to Australia and the lowest amount of Rs 880 thousand was exported to Malaysia. The department has stated that pickles worth Rs 182.6 million were exported in the last fiscal year.
The Customs Department has started keeping records of pickle import and export only from the fiscal year 2077/078. Pickles worth Rs 39.2 million were exported that year. Pickle production in Nepal has increased significantly after the Corona pandemic.
Various brands of pickles produced domestically are becoming popular, especially among Nepalis living in third countries. Due to this, the demand for Nepali pickles has increased abroad.
