The contract for the supply and installation of the dam, power house, civil structures, gates and other hydromechanical equipment of the Sunkoshi-Marin Diversion Multipurpose Project of national pride has been evaluated after it was awarded.

The project had issued a 14-day public notice on October 24 to terminate the contract with Patel-Raman JV for the construction of the package. As per the provisions of the contract, the contract was terminated on November 8.

After terminating the contract, the project has taken control of all the equipment, site office, and construction site of the construction entrepreneur. The project has stated that the work done so far, the equipment there, the remaining and additional work to be done, etc. are being evaluated to determine the cost estimate and prepare the tender documents.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure, Transport, and Urban Development Kulman Ghising inspected the headworks construction area of the project in Seleghat, Manthali Municipality-6, Ramchhap on Monday and took information about the condition of the site after the tender was canceled and the progress being made in issuing a new tender. He has also instructed the project to immediately proceed with the new tender process.

‘A new tender should be issued accordingly, after evaluating the work done so far, the remaining work, and the additional work seen during the construction. The construction of the project, which has already been completed, should not be delayed, and a new tender process should be initiated immediately to ensure that the construction is completed according to the new schedule,' he said.

Even though the contract period has been completed by about 61 percent, the physical progress has been only about 10 percent, there has been no willingness to increase the progress, and no interest was shown in it even when a notice was issued to improve the work as per the provisions of the contract. The contract with Patel-Raman JV was terminated for the construction of the project at a cost of Rs 14.88 billion.
