Binod Pokharel has been re-elected as the president of the Nepal Layer Poultry Farmers Association. The third general assembly and second convention held in Bharatpur on Friday formed a new working committee under the chairmanship of Pokharel.
Large poultry entrepreneurs who raise layer chickens for eggs are affiliated with this association. Pokharel was also the president of the association before. Pokharel informed that about 160 poultry entrepreneurs across the country who raise layer chickens are affiliated with associations.
He said that currently 3.8 to 4 million eggs are produced in Nepal daily. He said that before the Corona period, up to 6 million eggs were produced daily. He said that after Corona, the poultry farming business has been negatively affected and the number and production of poultry farmers have decreased. He said that the sector has experienced some relief recently because the association was established three years ago and has been working for the benefit of entrepreneurs.
The first vice-president of the newly formed committee of the association is Jotendra Shrestha, second vice-president is Amod Khanal, general secretary is Bheshraj Aryal, secretary is Madan Pokharel, joint secretary is Vivek Niraula, treasurer is Prakash Chapagain, and senior member of the working committee is Rajendra Lamichhane.
Similarly, Raju Adhikari, Ashish Bhattarai, Vivek Bhatta, Sanjiv Khanal, Lalit GC, Gangaram Bhattarai, Bharat Sharma and Krishna Bahadur Ale have been selected as other members of the working committee. The association has demanded from the government to fix the selling price of chicken according to the cost price and to stop the illegal import of chickens, chicken chicks and eggs from India.
The association has recently stated that it costs Rs 19.12 to produce one chicken egg. A committee of experts formed on the initiative of the association has fixed this cost.
Poultry farmers have also demanded that the government bodies recognize this cost price and create an environment to fix a new selling price based on it.
