Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey has said that work on the Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project should begin as soon as possible.

Addressing the golden jubilee celebration of Jageshwor Secondary School in Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality on Friday, he expressed concern that the Budhi Gandaki project has not yet taken shape.

He said that he has repeatedly raised the issue of the project with the federal government in the National Coordination Council meeting and the National Problem Solving Committee meeting. ‘We have also spoken to the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, now we will hold a joint meeting of the governments of Gandaki and Bagmati provinces and local governments in the inundated area to draw everyone’s attention to the project and take initiatives with the federal government to complete the project quickly,’ he said.

He said that if the project is built, there will also be a qualitative change in the income of the people of Dhading and Gorkha. ‘Not only electricity but also a new type of project including tourism will be created, it covers many things and the economic situation is likely to change,’ he said, ‘We will take initiatives with the federal government on behalf of the joint government of the two provinces to complete it as soon as possible.’
