Construction entrepreneurs have expressed their commitment to complete the construction of the Dudhaura Bridge in Bara, along the Pathlaiya-Dhalkebar section of the East-West Highway, by next December.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development Kulman Ghising inspected the bridge construction on Friday after receiving complaints that the construction of the main highway bridge had been stalled for years.

Minister Ghising had discussed with the Director General of the Roads Department and construction entrepreneurs on the completion schedule, remaining work, problems, etc. Noting that the bridge on the main highway has not been built for a long time, Minister Ghising said that the work should not be stopped by showing the electricity line and should be completed immediately. He also said that the 11 kV line passing near the bridge will not affect the construction.

Ravi Singh of Mahadev Khimti-Hirachan Enterprise (JV), Kathmandu, which was awarded the contract for the bridge construction, committed to completing the bridge construction within the last extension.  Singh, who is also the president of the Federation of Construction Entrepreneurs, said that the bridge construction will be completed by December and handed over to the Roads Department.

A contract agreement was signed with Mahadev Khimti-Hirachan Joint Venture (JV) on 24 Asad 2075 for the construction of a four-lane, 90-meter-long concrete bridge for Rs 172.2 million (including taxes). As per the initial agreement, the construction of the bridge was to be completed by Asad 2078. As per the latest extension, the construction of the bridge will have to be completed by next Poush. The physical progress of the bridge is 85 percent.
