On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN), the association has announced that it will celebrate its Diamond Jubilee in Kathmandu on Magh 2, 2082. The program will include a special discussion on the successes, possibilities, and challenges seen in the hotel and tourism sector of Nepal from the past to the present.
The announcement also mentions that the Hospitality Day, which has been celebrated for the past two years, will also be included on this occasion.
The two-day Hotel Expo-2026 to be held on Magh 2 and 3 will have more than 50 stalls of materials and services required for the hotel business. Various companies will also play the role of sponsors in the program.
Based on the main theme of ‘Tech Powered Hospitality’, it is said that national and international experts will share their experiences on automation, AI, technology-friendly business operations and new practices being used in the modern hospitality industry.
During the program, the Nepal Hotel Air Book and a ‘Food Book’ containing 60 types of original local dishes collected from all seven provinces will be made public. The participating domestic and foreign guests will be treated to these same Nepali dishes, according to Han.
The event will discuss the contribution of Nepal’s hotel and tourism industry to the country’s economy, job creation, and the impact of large-capital hotels that are currently opening rapidly across the country. The association says that the presence of international chain brands is further spreading the tourism attraction of Nepal. HANA believes that the
program will activate tourism in all seven provinces and help develop new destinations. The association said in a statement that special honors will be given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the hotel and tourism sector. HANA has appealed to various organizations for cooperation to make the program successful.
HANA is a non-profit organization established in 1966 with eight hotels. In the early decades, when the industrial sector in Nepal was low, HANA played an important role in tourism policy-making, government regulation, and the social advancement of the hospitality industry.
The 1970s-80s are considered a time of rapid expansion of the Nepal tourism sector. During this period, the number of star-rated hotels was also increasing in places such as Pokhara and Chitwan outside Kathmandu.
HANA helped make the travel and trekking business systematic and professional, setting an example of private sector leadership in the country's tourism development. Nepal also started to benefit directly from the concept of Borderless World that emerged after 1980, taking international trade and travelers to new heights.
Today, HANN, as a representative organization of the hotel industry spread across the country, is continuously active in the development of Nepal tourism, promoting quality services and international standards.
