Amid the instability in Nepal following the Gen-G protests, 65 American tourists landed in Kathmandu today on a chartered Airbus aircraft operated by Britain's Tyne Airways.

They arrived in Kathmandu from Bhutan on Sunday morning. Before that, their charter plane had reached Hagatna, Guam in the Pacific Ocean, from Kona International Airport in the US state of Hawaii on Sunday. Then they arrived in Chiang Mai, Thailand on Monday. After leaving the charter plane in Thailand, they reached Bhutan via Cambodia on Tuesday. They landed in Kathmandu on a Bhutan Airlines plane from Bhutan on Sunday morning.

Bhutan's mountainous airport Paro has a small runway and due to 'load restrictions', the possibility of regular landing of large jet aircraft like Airbus A321 is very low. Therefore, tourists on charter tours have to use airports in Cambodia, Bhutan and Nepal from Thailand. The plane is landing in Kathmandu from Thailand at 4 pm today with only 2 passengers.

According to Yeti Holidays, the tour company that is managing their group's Nepal tour via Cambodia and Bhutan, they are scheduled to return to Dubai from Kathmandu on Monday.

These tourists have been selected to stay in Kathmandu at a renowned five-star boutique hotel that combines cultural heritage and traditional Nepali architecture. As per the tour program, they will visit ancient cities and cultural centers of Nepal including Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Patan Durbar Square and Bhaktapur Durbar Square.

According to Yeti Holidays' estimate, these 65 American tourists will spend about $500 each on their stay in Nepal. According to which, the total cost of their stay in Nepal is about 66,000 Nepali rupees per person.

Yeti Holidays had also brought tourists to Nepal through a special charter tour for the National Geographic family a few months ago.

According to tourism professionals, in recent years, 3/5 charter flights of high-end tourists have been made to Nepal annually. This is very low compared to charter tours in Asian countries.

According to Laxman Gautam, acting director of the Nepal Tourism Board, the practice of bringing tourists through charter flights began in Nepal in 1955. He says, “Nepal is a suitable destination for charter tours in terms of its mountains, culture, heritage and originality.” Considering Nepal’s mountainous, cultural and historical diversity, he says that tourists coming through charter tours will have a positive impact on the country’s tourism market.
