Kami Rita Sherpa, an experienced high-altitude climber and alpine guide from the Nepali Sherpa community, has received a Guinness World Record certificate for completing the 42nd ascent of the world's 8,000-meter-high mountains, including Mount Everest.

Kami Rita, 55, from Thame, Solukhumbu, is also the world's most successful Everest climber. Out of the 42 ascents of the 8,000-meter mountain, he has climbed Everest 31 times.

He summited Everest for the 31st time on May 27, 2025. Apart from Everest, he has climbed the 8,000-meter Manaslu, Lhotse, Choyu and Pakistan's K-2 mountains.

This recent achievement in climbing the high mountain has become another prestigious chapter in the history of Nepal's mountaineering. Speaking to 'Kantipur' on Wednesday morning, record-holding climber Kami Rita described this achievement as the result of 'lifelong dedication, hard work and the spirit of the Sherpa community'.

He said that he dedicated this honor to Nepal, the Sherpa community, family and all those who believe in dedication and humility. Another world-famous record holder from Nepal, Nirmal Purja ‘Nimsadai’, is also known worldwide for his historic achievements in the 8,000-meter category of mountains. He said that he has set a record of climbing 51 times on 14 8,000-meter mountains in the world, including Mount Everest.

The achievements of these two climbers are making Nepal known as a country of high mountain courage, determination and world-class mountaineering ability. According to Kamirita, many Nepali Sherpas are among the record holders who have climbed less than 40 times.

Guinness World Record-winning climber Kamirita said that her mountaineering journey will not stop there and will go to climb Mount Everest for the 32nd time in the upcoming spring season.
