Industrialists and businessmen of the district have made demands to Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Bishwanath Poudel, including concessional loans, increased investment in cardamom, and provision of gold and silver collateral in private banks.

This issue was raised by industrialists, business leaders and farmers with a team including Governor Poudel who reached Taplejung via Ilam and Panchthar to understand the economic problems of the hilly districts of eastern Nepal. Businessman Taranath Ghimire, former central member of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, proposed that the National Bank should take the initiative to create an environment where concessional commercial loans can be easily obtained. Ghimire said that construction work has been hampered due to the tendency to award contracts at low cost and not perform work, and suggested that a national discussion should be held to determine a lower rate for construction entrepreneurs.

Construction entrepreneurs Jas Bahadur Limbu and Kali Bahadur Thebe proposed that only bids should be invited according to the budget. They claimed that the tendency to award work and not pay at the time of awarding the budget has defamed construction entrepreneurs and has also adversely affected construction work.

Former chairman of the Cardamom Zone, Dinesh Adhikari, demanded from the governor to increase investment in the cardamom sector. Reminding that cardamom is currently the most exported agricultural product from Nepal, he drew attention to providing subsidies and concessional loans to farmers and entrepreneurs. He proposed that there should be uniformity in bank interest rates. He proposed that farmers should get a good price if they get concessional loans for planting, irrigation, storage and packaging of cardamom.

Dhaka textile entrepreneur Shanti Maden said that concessional loans are necessary for small entrepreneurs to import raw materials. Nanda Kumar Angbuhang, a leading farmer of Aathrai Triveni Rural Municipality, mentioned that the government should pay attention to the fact that modernization has been introduced in the agricultural sector, but farmers are unable to purchase it. He drew the attention of the Nepal Rastra Bank to make commercial PAN number mandatory for all entrepreneurs.

Sajan Poudel, who is also the campus head of Pathibhara Multiple Campus, proposed that all banks should be allowed to trade with gold and silver as collateral. Reminding that there are 14 banks in Taplejung, Nepal Bank is the only one. They claimed that the service was not accessible to the general public when trading using gold and silver as collateral.
