A five-star hotel, Royal Tulip Chitwan, has come into operation in Sauraha. Royal Tulip Chitwan, a brand of France's Louvre Hotels Group, is being operated by KTM Hospitality.

Spread over four acres of land, including a helipad, there is a 24-hour restaurant called 'Majhi Ghar' within the hotel premises. Tourists from the hotel and outsiders can also visit it. The company has also stated that more than 200 species of plants have been planted in the resort area alone.

The restaurant has been named Majhi Ghar after being inspired by the culture and traditions of the local tribal Tharu and Majhi communities. Where diners can enjoy delicious and healthy dishes in an intimate atmosphere. KTM Hospitality Chairman and CEO Rameshwar Shah says that Majhi Ghar is a blend of both local culture and international influences.

There are 65 rooms including Superior, Deluxe, Premium Room (Pet Friendly), Pool Villa, Water Villa, and Loft. There are Water Villa-3 and Pool Villa-4. The price of the five-star Royal Tulip rooms will range from Rs 17,000 to Rs 100,000. The hotel has three halls, namely Gyan Sadan, Dhyan Sadan, and Veda Sadan. They can accommodate more than 500 people.

The hotel has set up its own bottle factory with the aim of not using plastic products. It has the capacity to produce 500 glass bottles of 750 milliliters per day. The hotel premises have facilities such as a swimming pool, jacuzzi, kids' playing zone, boating and fishing. There will be a Tharu cultural show every night to showcase Tharu culture.

The company has stated that the hotel will be more brightly lit at night than during the day. The hotel has both indoor and outdoor dining arrangements.

Shah said that although the construction of the hotel started in 2019, it took some time. 'We started building the hotel before Covid, but it took 4 and a half years to get it operational,' he said, 'We haven't formally inaugurated it, but our hotel is already operational.'

Shah said that there is a plan to stop foreign tourists as well as tourists traveling outside Nepal from Nepal/bring them to Sauraha. 'After the 2062/063 movement, 2/3 of the forests were closed. That stopped tourists from coming to Sauraha. Our plan is to bring them back,' he said, 'Recently, the number of domestic tourists has been increasing. But the number of foreign tourists is unstable.'

He said that it will take 4 hours to reach Kathmandu, adding that there is a hospital and a city nearby. 'We have also built a helipad for tourists who come by chartering a plane themselves,' he said, 'It takes 20 minutes even from Bharatpur Airport. It will be easy to come by road or air.'

The hotel will be built in a 10-minute radius. He said that it has also been made disability-friendly. 'We have made the hotel disability-friendly, we have made the rooms with the aim of making it easy for them,' he said, 'We have made wheelchair-accessible paths everywhere.'

Shah also said that stones from various places including Ramechhap, Rukum, Baglung, Bandipur, and wood from Chitwan were used in the construction of the hotel. 'We have made it according to order in various factories according to our designs, and we have given first priority to local products,' he said.

Shah said that Rs 1.75 billion has been invested in the construction of the hotel so far. 'Sauraha still needs 4/5 such hotels,' he said, 'Therefore, the government should emphasize on promoting this place. Arrangements should also be made to allow night safaris.' Shah says that hotels from small to large should be opened in Chitwan, saying that various types of tourists come. For that, he plans to discuss with all hoteliers and local people.

The hotel currently has 94 employees. Stating that the main priority is to provide employment to locals, he said that there are only 3 external employees sent by the Royal Tulip brand. However, he said that employees will be added gradually.

The government has been closing the Chitwan National Park every year during the rainy season. But other community forests in Chitwan remain open. Shah complained that when the park is closed, it is publicized like Sauraha is closed. 'The government always closes the park during the rainy season. But the public is informed that the entire Sauraha is closed,' he said, 'There are community forests including Kumroz, Baghmara, Chitrasen. That is why Sauraha is open. Rumors should not be spread.'
