The program was organized by the Nepal Bankers Association in collaboration with the German Development Agency (GIZ) under the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) - Global Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Network (GREEN) project. The program will enhance the capacity of Nepal to develop and implement energy efficiency credit mechanisms, the Bankers Association claims. The workshop discussed the role of banks in promoting energy efficiency and the opportunities it creates. The press release states that the investment in energy efficiency by banks will help industries reduce energy consumption and operating costs, which will contribute to Nepal's sustainable economic development and help Nepal move towards a competitive industrial economy. The program was held in major industrial areas including Kathmandu, Butwal, Bhairahawa, Pokhara, Biratnagar, Birgunj, Chitwan and Nepalgunj. More than 200 bank officials, including provincial heads and branch managers of 8 banks, participated in the program. The statement states that the Nepal Bankers Association is committed to further strengthening sustainable and green financial practices in the banking sector and collaborating with various stakeholders to bring it into the mainstream.
