A new contract agreement has been signed for the Dhulikhel-Khawa road along the Araniko Highway. The Road Division Office, Bhaktapur has awarded a new contract for the expansion of a 4-kilometer section of the road.
According to the office, Avon Kali JV Kathmandu has taken the contract for the work with a budget of 315.6 million. The company has committed to completing the work in 14 months. Suman Yogesh, Chief of the Road Division Office, Bhaktapur, informed that an agreement was signed with Avon Kali JV Kathmandu on 27 Kartik 2082.
According to him, the road expansion work has already started as per the agreement. He said that the construction business is expected to complete the work within the time limit. As part of the expansion work of the four-kilometer road section, machinery wall, plum concrete, slope protection and other works are currently being carried out, said Bhakta Lama, representative of Avon Kali JV Kathmandu.
According to him, the work of laying a thick cement-mixed base, two-stage blacktop DBM and asphalt blacktop, and slope protection will be done. He said that the slope protection work is a bit challenging. "We have been given a 14-month deadline to complete the work," he said. "We plan to complete it before that. We plan to complete the work in the upcoming Baisakh once the traffic diversion is managed."
Although Gauri Parbati Construction Services Pvt. Ltd. had signed a contract agreement on 2079 Jestha 20 for Rs 2019.46 million, the contract was to be completed by 2080 Chaitra 19, but the Road Department had terminated the contract after only 25 percent of the work was completed even after an 11-month extension.
After the contract was terminated, Gauri-Parbati Construction Services Company filed a case in the Patan High Court. After the case was dismissed on 25 Asad, the division re-contracted according to the new procedure.
