As of Sunday, Rs 93 million has been collected in the fund established by the government for the reconstruction of public infrastructure damaged during the protests on Bhadra 23 and 24.

For the reconstruction of public infrastructure, the government had urged everyone to voluntarily contribute by opening a bank account in the name of the ‘Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Fund’ at the National Commercial Bank on October 28. According to which, individuals and organizations have contributed about 92 million rupees, according to the Ministry of Finance.

There are fewer organizations and more individuals among those who have contributed to the fund so far. In terms of amount, the highest amount collected was 15 million rupees, while more than a dozen individuals received one rupee, according to sources.

There has been a lot of damage in both the government and private sectors during the protests. The damage has not yet been assessed. However, officials at the Ministry of Finance have said that initial figures show that the damage is more than 100 billion rupees in the government and private sectors. The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, an umbrella organization for the private sector, has claimed that more than 80 billion rupees have been damaged in private property.

According to a study conducted by the government, it is estimated that physical damage worth 82 billion rupees has been caused during vandalism, looting and arson. The Finance Ministry has stated that initial information has been received that public property, private businesses, institutions and business houses across the country have been damaged by the protests, amounting to 80.22 billion rupees.

The Damage Assessment and Reconstruction Study Subcommittee also discussed the preliminary report at the Finance Ministry on Tuesday. While the government had said that the damage would be around 100 billion rupees, the subcommittee said that the damage was around 20 billion rupees less than that. According to sources, out of the total damage of 80.25 billion rupees, 39 billion rupees were caused by the private sector, 28 billion rupees by the federal government, 4 billion rupees by the provinces and 9 billion rupees by the local level in terms of physical infrastructure and industrial businesses.
