'Cooperative savers' money has not been embezzled'

What you should know

The troubled cooperative management committee has claimed that the cooperative's savers' money has not been misappropriated. After the cooperative's victims began protesting for a few days, raising questions about the troubled cooperative's operations, the office issued a statement on Thursday claiming that the savers' money had not been misappropriated and that the victims' money was being returned as per the law.

‘Everyone is aware that we are moving forward with various options to return the savings of the affected savers. The committee has drawn serious attention to the unfounded propaganda being spread against this committee through various means,’ the statement issued by the committee said. ‘In this regard, the general savers are requested not to believe such illusions and rumors.’

The statement mentions that the office has been falsely promoting that 10 percent of the reconciliation amount as a fee for the savings and loan reconciliation work was deposited in the bank account of the concerned cooperative, but the office has raised money for that work. The office claims that the amount is deposited in the account of the concerned cooperative by the savers themselves and that the amount is used purely for the return of the savings of the unreconciled savers. The office has stated that the amount has not been spent on any other work other than returning the savings and will not be used in the future.

‘No debt or liability has been settled so far from the reconciliation of third-party land,’ the statement said. Similarly, from the time of establishment to the end of Ashar in the fiscal year 2080/81 (over a period of about 6 years), 836.520,874 rupees of savings were returned/reconciled. However, the office has stated that the entire amount of claims of 3,689 claimants has been settled by the end of Ashar in the fiscal year 2081/82.

During this period, the office has also stated that the process of partially returning 358.28128 rupees to 56,106 savers of various cooperatives who had claims in the first phase is underway.

During this period, a total of 329.84780 rupees of savings have been reconciled and the amount to be paid in cash through banks has been distributed, the office has informed.

‘The movable and immovable properties of all the directors, managers and members of the accounting committee of the problematic cooperative have been frozen,’ the statement said. ‘The bank accounts and movable and immovable properties of 11,000 debtors who have not paid their debts have also been frozen. The process of freezing the bank accounts and assets of the remaining debtors has been continued.'
