While the government was saying that the damage would be around 100 billion rupees, the subcommittee said that the damage was around 20 billion rupees less. Of the total damage of 80.25 billion rupees, 39 billion rupees were lost in the private sector, 28 billion rupees in the federal government, 4 billion rupees in the provinces, and 9 billion rupees in the local level. 

In the discussion held at the Ministry of Finance, the subcommittee said that so far, the damage has been worth 80.25 billion rupees and that this amount could increase further as the damage details are still coming in. ‘Even if the damage details increase a bit, the increased amount will not be in billions, but in crores and lakhs. Based on this, the damage caused by the demonstration is likely to be more than 80 billion rupees,’ the source said. 

The government formed a 5-member committee under the coordination of National Planning Commission Secretary Harisharan Pudasaini to assess the damage to public property, physical infrastructure, and private enterprises across the country and prepare a reconstruction plan for public infrastructure. According to the details collected by this subcommittee (Loss and Damage Assessment), the initial assessment of the damage caused by the protests across the country is Rs 80.22 billion. 

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, an umbrella organization for the private sector, has said that the private sector alone has suffered damage to physical property worth about Rs 80 billion, of which Rs 37 billion has been completely destroyed. Accordingly, it is said that more than Rs 25 billion has been lost in the hotel and tourism sector, more than Rs 15 billion in the automobile sector, 50 million in cash and 18 kg of gold have been looted from banks. It is estimated that about 15,000 jobs have been affected after the damage caused by the protests, and the GDP may be affected by 5 percent. The initial estimate of the NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal is that the vandalism and arson committed by the protesters during the protests have caused damage of about Rs 15 billion. According to NADA, initially, damage has been caused to auto dealers, showrooms, wirehouses, spare parts stores, etc. across the country, including Kathmandu. NADA stated that the most damage has occurred in the Thapathali area. Dealers in Kalanki, Hetauda, ​​Pokhara, Narayangadh and other places have also been damaged. 

More than 15,000 jobs have been affected in the private sector due to arson and vandalism. This is the number of jobs provided by organizations such as the hotel and tourism sector, Bhatbhateni Supermarket, Chaudhary Group, Chandragiri Cable Car, Maulakalika Cable Car, which provide a lot of employment. Stakeholders say that the number of directly affected jobs will increase further as many industries and commercial malls have been damaged. 

About 10,000 employees work in 28 branches of Bhatbhateni Supermarket. 21 branches have been damaged during the protest. Of these, 9 branches have been vandalized but have resumed operations. 12 branches that were completely destroyed by arson are not currently operational. Bhatbhateni has already said that it will not lay off any employees and will immediately provide work in other branches.
