Amritman Shrestha, a member of the Board of Directors of Nepal Airlines Corporation, has been appointed as the Acting General Manager of the corporation.
Energy Minister Kulman Ghising has confirmed that the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday decided to give Shrestha the responsibility of General Manager to take forward the important work immediately.
According to Minister Ghising, the cabinet appointed Amritman Shrestha, a member of the Board of Directors, as the corporation needs to take immediate decisions.
Shrestha was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of the corporation by the then Tourism Minister Prem Ale. He is also a retired employee of the corporation.
After the term of the corporation's executive chairman Yubaraj Adhikari ended after Tihar, he gave the responsibility of Deputy Director Doleshwor Koirala to the acting General Manager. But after Deputy General Manager Janakraj Kalakheti demanded that he be made acting General Manager based on seniority, Kalakheti was appointed as the acting General Manager.
According to sources in the Prime Minister's Office, the Cabinet decided to change the leadership after Kalakheti expressed his inability to resolve the stalled engine payment with the Israeli company.
According to the source, an alternative leadership was sought after Kalakheti expressed his inability to pay the amount owed to the Israeli company and to bring the engine that was there. Amritman Shrestha, on the other hand, was appointed as the General Manager after he promised to fulfill the responsibility.
Shrestha will now take charge, accepting the challenge of taking immediate action on the stalled engine payment, lease dispute and other primary issues at the corporation.
