Nepal Airlines Corporation will now use Gautam Buddha International Airport (Bhairahawa) as an 'alternative' airport in case its flights have to be diverted.
While it has been compulsory to use Indian airports for diversions until now, the Bhairahawa airport has now been allowed to be used, said NAC spokesperson Anil Ghimire.
NAC says this will save both the cost and time involved in diversions. NAC has also decided to proceed with the study process to use Pokhara International Airport as an 'alternative' airport.
With the NAC's decision, it is expected that the expansion of alternative airports in the near future will further facilitate emergency landings and increase confidence in air safety.
