Farmers have alleged that the Shantibazaar Depot under the Food and Management Trade Center Rajapur has been charging illegal fees for distributing coupons. They say that the depot is charging Rs 25 for each coupon distributed to farmers for selling paddy.
'When bringing rice to the depot for sale, coupons are only available for Rs 25,' said Deep Narayan Shrestha, a farmer from Geruwa Rural Municipality-6. 'The employees have not given receipts even after taking Rs 25.'
Farmers complain that the employees have been collecting money even though the government has distributed coupons free of charge. Mahesh Tharu of Geruwa-4 said that he was forced to take coupons by paying Rs 25 because he thought his turn would come soon.
When asked about this, Kamal Pandey, head of the Food and Trade Center Rajapur, said, 'I have also heard about it. Information is being collected about this.'
The Food and Trade Center Rajapur has been purchasing rice since Kartik 19. This year, the government has fixed the price of coarse rice at Rs 3,463.81 and fine rice at Rs 3,628.33.
