The famous Mundum Trail in eastern Nepal has been recognized as an International Mountain Hiking Demonstration Route.

According to Kumarmani Thapaliya, President of the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel (NATTA), this recognition was conferred at the International Mountain Tourism and Outdoor Sports Conference-2025 held in Guiyang city, Guizhou province, China on Wednesday.

The conference on mountain tourism 'Quality Life through Integration of Culture, Tourism and Sports' organized by the International Mountain Tourism Alliance is continuing in Guizhou province, China from Tuesday. The international recognition received by the Mundum Trail, which is also promoted at the initiative of the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA), has highlighted Nepal's originality, cultural diversity and commitment to sustainable tourism in mountain tourism to the world.

NATTA President Thapaliya, who represented Nepal at the conference, presented Nepal's diverse natural landscapes, cultural heritage and tourism potential to the tourism community around the world. 'It is a matter of pride for Nepal that the Mundum Trail has been recognized internationally. It has introduced the concept of original, local community-based and sustainable mountain tourism that Nepal is trying to promote to the world. This is not only a pride for Nepal, but also for the entire South Asian mountain tourism,' said President Thapaliya.

This trail shows a unique visual balance between the mountains, hills and Terai. The views of Salpa Pokhari, Silichung Danda, the Sagarmatha region and dense forests are its main attractions.

This trail, which has a total length of about 100 kilometers, can be completed in 6 to 10 days depending on the hiker's interests. Its main routes include Salpa Pokhari, Maiyung, Diprung, Dorpakha, Diktel, Chhyasmitar, Bakhachol, Champadevi, Tawakhola, Silichung, Necha, etc.

This trail offers places related to the lifestyle, culture, folklore, traditions, and religion of the Kirat people. The Mundum Trail is considered by hikers to be 'authentic' and 'peaceful'.
