A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the International Mountain Tourism Federation and Everest Alliance Nepal with the aim of collaborating to promote sustainable mountain tourism, environmental conservation, and cultural exchange.
The agreement, which was signed in Guizhou Province, China, has opened the door to new collaborations in the sustainable development of mountain tourism worldwide. Under the three-year agreement, both organizations will work together to make mountain tourism environmentally friendly and community-oriented.
The International Mountain Tourism Federation is the world's first international organization that has focused on promoting mountain tourism. The Nepal-based Everest Alliance has been working on sustainable mountaineering, environmental protection and local community empowerment in the Himalayan region.
According to the agreement, both organizations will jointly run programs in the areas of mountaineering, adventure sports, rescue training, environmental protection and cultural exchange.
The agreement also includes a plan to promote responsible practices in mountaineering and emphasize skill-based training and leadership development for local communities.
The agreement will include exchanges between mountaineers, trainers and technical experts, and joint rescue demonstrations, leadership training and safety training will be organized.
In addition, there will be joint participation in international mountaineering expeditions, cultural festivals, adventure competitions and conferences.
Giving top priority to environmental protection, both organizations have agreed to conduct waste management, trail cleaning and awareness campaigns.
Public awareness programs on climate change, biodiversity and sustainable tourism will also be conducted.
The agreement signing ceremony was held under the International Mountain Tourism and Outdoor Sports Conference 2025. The conference, held in Guiyang, China under the slogan ‘Integration of Culture, Tourism and Sports: High Quality Life’, was attended by approximately 350 representatives from 30 countries.
