A team from Delhi-based Adventure on Wheels, a company that tours tourists in the high Himalayan regions of India, including Leh, Ladakh, Himachal, and Uttarakhand, entered Nepal last week via the Gaddachauki border crossing with a Bullet (Himalayan Royal Enfield) motorcycle.

Adventure on Wheels had taken the responsibility of taking 6 Indian tourists around Nepal on big motorcycles for adventure bike riding. That is why they came with motorcycles.

‘We have been taking tourists to India and Nepal for five to seven years,’ said Sanjay Kumar, the owner of Adventure Wheels, ‘Tourists who want adventure enjoy motorcycle riding, and are very happy to go bike riding in Manang and Mustang in Nepal.’ He will take the tourists around Nepal for 10 days. Foreign tourists will come to Pokhara from Kathmandu by air. Some of the motorcycles will be transported to Pokhara by car and some by foot.

The Adventure Wheels team will include motorcycle repairers, health workers and, if necessary, rescue teams. They will not let any kind of problem happen to the tourists. If the motorcycle breaks down, it will be repaired immediately, if there is any health problem, it will be treated, and if there is any difficulty, it will be rescued.

Sanjay said that while bringing and taking the motorcycle, there is more hassle due to the checks on the road and the stray animals. He said that the checks at various places and the stray animals along the road make it difficult to travel. India's Himalayan Motorcycle Adventure Company has also brought 10 Bullet motorcycles to Nepal this week. The company also brought the vehicle from Pokhara for tourists to take on adventure riding.

'We have been providing adventure riding to tourists in this way for 20 years,' said Shehzad, a representative of Himalayan Motorcycle Adventure, 'We bring motorcycles from there as per the demand of the tourists, and we keep them in Nepal for 10/15 days as per the demand.' This time, he said, 10 motorcycles have been imported for 10 days after completing the customs process.

Sehzad himself has been bringing tourists from India on motorcycles for two decades. He takes them to Pokhara in his vehicle, and then the tourists ride themselves to reach the high-mountainous and Himalayan districts. Sehzad says that now tourists prefer the Manang and Mustang regions for adventure riding.
According to the Gaddachauki Customs Office, 80 motorcycles have been temporarily imported for adventure riding so far this year. Customs Officer Dan Bahadur Thapa said that there is a provision for motorcycles imported for tourism activities to be used repeatedly or at once for a maximum of 6 months in a year.

He said that there will be no customs duty on motorcycles imported for tourists. "This time, tourists from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in India are coming to Nepal due to the monsoon disaster," said Jang Bahadur Malla, central member of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry. "This time, more motorcycles have been imported for adventure riding compared to the past." Every year, a large number of heavy motorcycles are imported for adventure riding after paying customs duties.
