The Nepal-India Joint Secretary-level Joint Technical Team (JTT) meeting has discussed issues related to electricity exchange, strengthening of transmission systems, and construction of new cross-border transmission lines between the two countries.

The 17th meeting of the JTT was held in Pokhara on Monday and Tuesday under the co-chairmanship of Sandeep Kumar Dev, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, and Bhagwan Sahay Bairwa, Chief Engineer, Central Electricity Authority of India, Government of India.

  The following agreements were reached in the meeting:

- Nepal and India presented their respective Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) regarding the Chameliya-Jaulljivi 220 kV double circuit transmission line. It was agreed that the joint technical team of both countries will prepare the joint DPR by November 2025 and the construction of the transmission line will be completed by December 2027.

- Preparations will be made to operate the new Butwal-Gorakhpur 400 kV line temporarily at 220 kV. It has been agreed to hold a meeting with the Uttar Pradesh Transmission Company within 15 days to further discuss the electricity import-export capacity through this. .

- Nepal has been able to export up to 1,500 MW and import up to 1,400 MW through the re-evaluation of the electricity exchange capacity through the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur and Dhalkebar-Sitamarhi transmission lines.

- Nepal will provide the necessary technical details for the construction of the DPR of the Nijgadh-Motihari 400 KV double circuit line within a month and both countries will jointly prepare the DPR.

- It was agreed to prepare the DPR by conducting a joint study on whether the termination point of the Lamahi-Lucknow 400 KV line towards Nepal will be Lamahi or Kohalpur.

- The DPR will be prepared by adopting high temperature HTLS technology for the reconductoring work of the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur 400 KV line.

- To jointly study the feasibility of replacing old conductors with HTLS conductors to increase the capacity of Raxaul-Parwanipur and Ramnagar-Gandak 132 kV lines.
