From Kartik 15-17, the rains have damaged about 56,267.26 metric tons of rice crops on about 12,662 hectares of land in 14 districts of Koshi Province.

According to the Directorate of Agriculture, Biratnagar, among the districts of the Terai, Jhapa has suffered the most damage, with about 21,820 metric tons of paddy on 4,364 hectares of land.

Similarly, Morang has suffered damage of 16,420 metric tons on 3,421 hectares.

Sunsari has suffered damage of 12,658.44 metric tons on 2,851 hectares.

In the hilly districts, 1,292 metric tons of paddy from 323 hectares have been damaged in Udayapur, 897.8 metric tons from 268 hectares in Ilam, 341.28 metric tons from 144 hectares in Panchthar, 389.4 metric tons from 118 hectares in Dhankuta, 372.09 metric tons from 157 hectares in Tehrathum, 740 metric tons from 250 hectares in Bhojpur, 450 metric tons from 200 hectares in Khotang, and 190 metric tons from 76 hectares.

In the mountainous districts, the highest damage was reported in Sankhuwabha with 312.5 metric tons from 125 hectares, and the lowest damage was reported in the high mountainous district of Solukhumbu with 40.59 metric tons from 15 hectares. In Taplejung, 342 metric tons from 120 hectares have been reported damaged.

According to Purnamaya Gurung, Horticulture Development Officer of the Directorate, 20 percent of the ripe paddy has been damaged in the Terai districts, of which about 25-30 percent has been damaged.

In the hilly districts, 8-10 percent of the paddy has been damaged, of which 25 percent has been damaged, while in the mountainous districts, 5-6 percent of the paddy has been damaged, of which 25 percent has been damaged. None of the damaged crops have been insured for agriculture.

According to the initial investigation conducted by the Directorate, all the damaged paddy crops have been listed as 'uninsured', under which both the insured area and the insured amount are zero. Due to this, no insurance claims have been received from farmers so far and no amount has been allocated by the insurance company for compensation.

Farmers in Koshi Province are currently in trouble. With 56,267.26 metric tons of paddy crop destroyed over an area of more than 12,662 hectares, it is seen that the total paddy production of the province will decline.
