Nepal-India joint technical team meeting in Pokhara

The 17th meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Technical Team (JTT) has begun. The meeting began in Pokhara on Monday, said Sandeep Dev, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Energy.

According to Joint Secretary Dev, the progress of the under-construction Butbal-Gorakhpur inter-country transmission line, which is scheduled to be operational from May 2026, will be discussed. The main agenda is how to charge the transmission line after its construction is completed, said the Ministry's spokesperson and Joint Secretary Dev.

Similarly, the progress and implementation of the 220 kV Chameliya (Nepal)-Jaljibi (India) transmission line will be discussed, the ministry said. Of the total 45 kilometers of this transmission line, 44.5 km falls on Nepali territory, while only 500 meters are in India. The Nepal-India Energy Secretary-level meeting held in 2081 had also agreed to complete the study of the transmission line and complete its construction and bring it into operation by 2027.

According to Dev, there is also an agenda to re-evaluate the capacity of the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur 400 kV transmission line. 'We will review the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur international transmission line again in the meeting,' he said. 'Currently, the capacity of this line has been set at 1100 MW.' The meeting will also discuss the Nijgadh-Motihari 400 kV and Lamahi-Lucknow-Kohalpur 400 kV transmission lines. 'We will discuss what kind of transmission lines can be built in the future,' he said.
