It will take some time for the work on the dry port to be constructed in Dodhara Chandni to officially begin. Although preparations were made in the past to start the work by laying the foundation stone, now the work is going to be carried out without laying the foundation stone.
Currently, the construction site is being built, including the necessary housing for workers. Work has been done from leveling the construction area to removing the foundation. The construction company has already applied to bring construction materials and equipment from India at customs duty exemption. The application was sent to the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Finance, said Ashish Gajurel, Executive Director of the Intermodal Transport Development Committee.
‘The construction company has requested customs duty exemption to bring all construction materials and necessary equipment from India,’ Gajurel said, ‘its master list (details of construction materials and equipment) has reached the Ministry of Industry and Finance.’ He said that regular coordination is being done in the Ministry of Finance for this.
The master list had been sent earlier for customs duty exemption. Now that a new format has been created, the master list has been sent for the second time after the ministry informed it to send the master list again according to it. It has been two weeks since the master list was sent. Gajurel said that it is expected that a decision on customs duty exemption can be made within the next two weeks.
‘The construction company can start work right now by purchasing construction materials from Nepal,’ said Gajurel, ‘The foundation laying program has been postponed, construction can be started and the foundation can be laid even while the construction is under way at an appropriate time.’ In the past, preparations were being made for the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s visit to India. At that time, the Prime Ministers of both countries were preparing to jointly lay the foundation stone online and start work. But Gajurel says that in the situation after the Gen-G demonstrations on 23 and 24 Bhadra, there is no immediate foundation laying program.
Comt Construction has received a contract for a dry port to be built with the help of the Indian government for Rs 2.4 billion. A contract agreement has been signed to complete the work within three years. The Intermodal Transport Development Committee has also handed over the site for construction in Shrawan. Since then, the construction company has been doing various works.
The construction company has said that it will bring all the necessary equipment, from dozers to transportation vehicles, cement, rods, and other materials from India. Gajurel said that in the past, when the dry port in Bhairahawa was started, materials came from India at customs exemption.
1,702 trees covering 42.36 hectares of the Gaurishankar Community Forest in Dodhara Chandani Municipality-1 have been cleared for the construction of the dry port. Now, structures will be built on only 25.3 hectares. Administrative buildings, warehouses, customs, security, quarantine houses, and load and unload sheds will be constructed in the area. In addition, walls will be built on all four sides.
The Intermodal Transport Development Committee is also discussing setting up a liaison office in Dodhara Chandani to facilitate necessary coordination during construction. Gajurel said that since the construction will be funded by the Government of India, they will monitor it.
