The Nepal Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs Association has expressed disagreement with the 10 criteria set by Malaysia and warned against forcing Malaysia to go down the path of permanently closing down employment in the country.

The Nepal Business Association, holding a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday, said that there is an attempt to form a syndicate in Malaysian employment. Malaysia had set 10 criteria for manpower from 5 countries, including Nepal, to select an appropriate number of manpower companies to practice decent labor migration. The deadline for source countries to make recommendations according to those criteria has been set for Kartik 27.

‘The decision and proposal of the Malaysian government has given a clear indication of establishing a syndicate in source countries, including Nepal, and favoring/getting some limited people to be favored.’ Which seems to trample on the fundamental right to do business/profession and create a monopoly market that is prohibited by the Constitution and laws of Nepal,' said President Bhuwan Gurung, 'Businessmen licensed from Nepal are involved in the foreign employment sector through legal processes, government policies and transparent practices.'

According to General Secretary Mahesh Basnet, the conspiracy to create a monopoly market and increase the financial burden on Nepali workers will weaken the professional rights of all businessmen to do business freely, the labor rights of workers and the labor policy of the Government of Nepal.

'The association will not hesitate to take any decision or take action against any body, individual, businessman, organization or group that participates in, supports or agrees to the proposals or agreements of such syndicates coming from Malaysia or being presented in various names, forms and styles within Nepal,' he said.

The association has also drawn the special attention of the Ministry of Labor and Foreign Affairs and requested them not to approve the syndicate trend in any form. "We call on all manpower professionals to be vigilant, closely monitor the activities of such syndicates, collect evidence, and be prepared to fight if necessary," said Secretary General Basnet. "We are steadfast in favor of a fair, transparent, healthy, competitive, and labor-friendly foreign employment system and will continue to stand firmly against such wrong trends in the future as well."
