Five-star hotel Taragaun Regency Hotels (Hyatt Regency Kathmandu) has stated that it will reopen as soon as possible after reconstruction, citing that the hotel suffered extensive damage during the Gen-G protests.
The hotel is being assessed for damage caused on Bhadra 23 and 24 and will reopen after reconstruction, the statement said.
'During the protests, vandalism, looting and arson activities have caused major damage to the hotel's guest rooms, offices, reception, lobby, restaurant, banquet hall, chaitya and the overall structure of the hotel. The hotel has been completely closed since then,' the hotel said. 'We are committed to upgrading and reconstructing the hotel after a complete assessment of the damage and bringing it back into operation as soon as possible with more extensive and excellent services.' The hotel said that the upgrading and reconstruction will take at least a year.
In a statement issued by the hotel's executive director Suresh Lal Shrestha on Sunday, the hotel expressed gratitude for the assurances given by Prime Minister Sushila Karki and Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal regarding the damage to the hotel.
