Cardamom price reaches Rs. 235,000 per quintal

The price of cardamom has reached Rs 235,000 per quintal. This is the increasing price of cardamom exported in the hills in terms of per maund (a maund of 40 kg) and per sack (a sack of 50 kg) when exported from Jhapa to India.

Cardamom trader Khem Sangraula of Sankranti Bazaar in Tehrathum informed that the current cardamom is being traded at 94,000 per maund on Sunday. Bhadrabir Regmi, president of the Cardamom Traders Association Taplejung, says that the cardamom is being traded at 93,000 per maund in Phungling, the headquarters of Taplejung.

Businessmen from Taplejung and Panchthar have been purchasing from farmers by reducing the freight to Jhapa. At the current price, one kilo costs 2,350 rupees. Meanwhile, cardamom worth 1.67 billion 91 million 75 thousand has been exported from the Mechi Customs Office in the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2082/83.

Information Officer of the Mechi Customs Office Ishwar Kumar Humagain informed that 1,072 metric tons of cardamom were exported in three months. Cardamom worth Rs 1.722 billion was exported during this period of the fiscal year 2081/82.
