On Laxmi Puja, or Monday evening, 1,650 megawatts of electricity was consumed across the country, which is higher than other days, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority.

The peak load (highest consumption) in the NEA system has reached 1,650 megawatts. 'Today's national peak demand for electricity is 1,650 megawatts,' NEA spokesperson Rajan Dhakal said, '1,150 megawatts are being exported.' The NEA has stated that the total system demand is 2,665 megawatts.

NEA Executive Director Manoj Silwal said that 1,650 megawatts were consumed during last year's Laxmi Puja. He said that even though industries that consume more electricity will be closed, every house and industry will be lit with flickering lights. The current Energy Minister and then Executive Director Kulman Ghising had announced the end of load shedding in the valley from the days of Laxmi Puja in 2073 BS.
