Of the 40 companies that traded on Wednesday, 206 companies increased their share prices, while 5 remained unchanged. As more companies saw their share prices decline than increase, the overall NEPSE fell by double digits.
On Wednesday, 7,611,660 shares were traded in 35,750 transactions. Shares worth Rs 3.10 billion and 18 million were traded in those transactions. The transaction amount decreased compared to the previous day.
On Tuesday, 7,488,273 shares were traded in 38,827 transactions. Shares worth Rs 3.36 billion and 61 million were traded in those transactions.
Among the 13 subgroups that traded on that day, the index of the collective investment fund subgroup increased moderately. The indices of all the other subgroups decreased, leading to a double-digit decline in the overall NEPSE. The index of the business subgroup decreased the most by 2.09 percent on that day.
The index of the banking subgroup decreased by 0.54, that of development banks by 1.14, that of finance companies by 1.10, that of hotels and tourism by 1.06, that of hydropower by 1.18, that of investment by 0.98, that of life insurance by 0.75, that of production and processing by 0.39, that of microfinance by 0.56, that of non-life insurance by 0.65 and that of others by 1.22 percent. However, the index of the collective investment fund subgroup is positive by 0.24 percent.
On Wednesday, the share price of Samata Ghareli Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha increased the most by 6.93 percent. However, the share price of Samaj Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha and Vindhyavasini Hydropower Company decreased by 10 percent each. Nepal Reinsurance Company is leading in terms of trading value on that day. Shares of this company worth Rs 205.4 million were traded.
After the decline in the stock market, the size of the stock market (total market capitalization) has shrunk by about Rs 38 billion. The total market capitalization, which was Rs 4.26 trillion on Tuesday, stood at Rs 4.188 trillion on Wednesday.
