Nepal's Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal has met with Asian Development Bank President Masato Kanda in the US capital, Washington, DC.

Minister Khanal is currently on a visit to the US to attend the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

During the meeting, Minister Khanal praised ADB's long-term contribution to infrastructure development and said that ADB's continued support for large projects in Nepal is necessary.

He also informed that the current government of Nepal is committed to creating an investment-friendly environment for the strong development of the private sector, according to a statement issued by the ministry.

Minister Khanal briefed Chairman Kanda about the progress being made in large infrastructure projects being built with ADB's investment, especially in the energy, transport and information technology sectors, and also invited him to visit Nepal, the statement said.

On this occasion, Finance Minister Khanal, addressing the meeting of the South-East Asian Group Governors of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, called for investment in hydropower and information technology infrastructure in Nepal.

Talking about the delay in the implementation of development projects, Minister Khanal suggested that the World Bank further simplify project-related standards and procedures.

He pointed out that the implementation of global financial standards developed by international financial institutions should also take into account the local needs and context of the country. 

Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Bishwanath Poudel also participated in the meeting and meeting.
