Banks and financial institutions will be allowed to include the amount spent on the treatment of injured Gen-Gs during the 23rd and 24th August protests under the title of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The National Bank has made this provision by revising the guidelines on corporate social responsibility on Tuesday.
According to the new arrangement, the poor and underprivileged citizens who have been injured in the Gen-G movement and are being treated in the government hospital will be allowed to include the expenses provided to the said hospital under the CSR title so that they do not have to double the cost of medical treatment.
Likewise, the Rastra Bank has opened a way for banks and financial institutions to spend the amount under CSR for the income generation of people who have been martyred in the Gen-G movement, to help increase the income generation capacity of families who do not have direct employment.
"In order to support the income generation of families who do not have direct employment for the income generation of people who have been martyred in the Gen-G movement, the cost of providing training to organizations that provide training based on the provision of skill training by the government or an organization that provides skill training approved by the government," said the circular of the National Bank.
The Ministry of Finance has repeatedly asked the National Bank to instruct banks and financial institutions to deposit the funds to be spent on CSR in the government's infrastructure reconstruction fund. However, the National Bank did not accept Artha's request saying that it cannot be done legally. After discussions with the Ministry of Finance, within the existing procedures related to CSR, the National Bank has made an arrangement that banks and financial institutions can spend on treating the injured of Gen-G movement, creating jobs for them, and showing that amount under the title of CSR .
