According to Floriculture Association Nepal, there will be a flower business worth 400 million rupees during Tihar alone. Rajesh Bhakta Shrestha, president of the association, said that since they grow flowers for their own homes, mainly consumers in urban areas buy garlands.
Association has said that 200,000 items will be exported out of 5.5 million velvet garlands. The wholesale price of hundred leaf garland will be Rs 80 to 85. He said that the wholesale price of velvet garlands ranges from 40 to 45 rupees. For consumers, it has been informed that the price of 100-fold garlands of 3 feet ranges from 120 to 125 rupees and velvet garlands up to 65 rupees.
For the past two years, although flower garlands have not been formally imported from India, it is said that only domestic products are available. However, Shrestha also mentioned that since there is an open border, one should be aware of the possibility of garlands coming from India secretly.
