Efforts to force payment of trunkline tariff unfair: Siddhartha Udyog Commerce Association

What you should know

Siddhartha Udyog Commerce Association based in Bhairahwa of Rupandehi has said that the government's attempt to force the payment of dedicated and trunk line tariffs which are not being used by the local industrialists is unjust.

After the ministerial decision of Energy Minister Kulman Ghisingh, the Nepal Electricity Authority has set a deadline for paying the dedicated and trunk line tariffs and has advised the industry. The union issued a press release on Tuesday and stated that the private sector has been adamant that the attempt to forcibly pay the electricity tariff for demand and unconsumed electricity is unjust and impractical, while the industry is always ready to pay the electricity tariff for dedicated and trunk line supplied after demand.  Netra Prasad Acharya, president of

association, has issued a statement and claimed that it is 100% correct to say that the industries that did not ask for electricity tariffs and dedicated-trunkline fees for the period before 29th January 2072 and after 075th June 1st and followed the instructions of the authority during loadshedding will not pay the amount.

"The authority is clearly saying that the industry is ready to pay the tariff if the evidence of electricity consumption during loadshedding is verified from TOD meter data," the statement said, "but instead of finding a way to solve the problem, we understand that the authority is trying to make this issue more complicated."

Due to the fact that the arrears of the industries under the Butwal-Bhairawa industrial corridor are objectively different from the arrears disputes of the industries in other areas, the association has made it clear that the industrialists of this area are suffering from injustice.

Association has also presented the reasons why the dues of the industries of Butwal-Bhairawa Industrial Corridor are different from the disputes of other places. According to Regulation 5 (5) of the Electricity Authority Tariff Collection Regulations, 2073, there is a clear legal provision in the statement that the customer must submit a proposal to the board of directors of the authority and get approval for the trunk line. However, the industries of this region have not demanded trunk line at any time and there has been no decision in this regard from the board of directors of the authority, it is mentioned in the statement.

According to the report submitted by the committee formed on 075 Chait under the chairmanship of Bhakta Bahadur, a member of the board of directors of the authority, the authority has been in the Panchkanya industrial corridor until 074 Chait 14 from that date. It has been informed through a statement that the Bhairahawa branch has clearly mentioned that there has been a change in the Panchkanya Corridor trunk line while connecting Bharaulia substation to Amwa substation to manage the internal load.  According to the

association, the report mentioned that the industries of the corridor have been included in the definition of the trunk line during the internal management of the authority.
