32 hydropower projects were affected in 10 districts of three provinces due to heavy rains from October 17 to 19.

According to preliminary data collected by Independent Energy Producers Association of Nepal (IPPAN) till Monday afternoon, 17 projects with a capacity of 180 MW and 15 hydropower projects with a capacity of 338 MW under construction have been affected by the flood. Ganesh Karki, president of IPPAN, said that due to the lack of flood warning and lack of confidence in the received information in the past years, huge human losses were also caused.

Out of the 17 projects in operation, 15 projects in Ilam have been the most affected due to the floods. The production of those projects in Elam has been stopped . These include 4.5 MW Mai Khola, 8 MW Mai Khola Cascade, 22 MW Mai Khola (Sanima Mai), 7 MW Mai Cascade, 7.8 MW Supermai, 9.6 MW Supermai A, 3 MW Supermai A Cascade . Similarly, there are 7.6 MW Jogmai River, 5.2 MW Jogmai Cascade, 6.2 MW Lower Jogmai, 9.5 MW Mai Beni, 9.9 MW Upper Mai, 5.1 MW Mai Sea Cascade, 4.96 MW Pua 2 and 3 MW Upper Pua 1 hydropower projects. Due to floods, 32 hydropower projects were affected, 15 projects were damaged in Ilam alone

Production of all projects except writing is currently closed . On the 4th, the production was stopped for a little more than 1 hour . Most of the damage to the under-construction project is on the access road.

Mohan Kumar Dangi, the owner of the promoter company Lalupate Hydropower informed that the 12 km access road constructed by the 49.95 megawatt Dana Khola hydropower project in Manang has collapsed in many places. He said that since the construction of the project has started since this year, the access road has not been set and the rain has washed away the road in many places.

Among the projects under construction, the 10 MW Siddikhola hydropower project in Ilam, promoted by Siddi Hydropower, was set to go into commercial production within 10 days. Due to flood damage, its electricity production date has been shifted.

The construction materials and construction equipment of the 21.5 MW Sabhakhola B and 9.9 MW Hewa Khola hydropower projects in Panchthar have been swept away. The access road of 4 hydropower projects in Sindhupalchowk has also been swept away by the flood. In which 36.51 MW Bramhayani, 15.15 MW upper Bramhayani, 40 MW Balefi and 22.5 MW lower Balefi hydropower project access roads have been flooded.

20 MW Langtang River in Rasuwa, 15.5 MW Irkhuwa River B in Bhojpur, 14.5 MW Upper Irkhuwa, 22.5 MW Upper Big River in Myagdi, 6.82 MW Hidi River in Lamjung, 48.8 MW Khimti 2 in Ramechhap and 4.5 MW Gasali River in Dhading. Due to damage to various structures including the access road of the project, the electricity production date of this project has been moved.

Due to the blocking of the access roads leading to the projects that are in operation and under construction, Ippan said that it may take some time to get detailed information about the damage.
