After the highway was blocked, the price of fresh vegetables was increased

With landslides blocking the highways, prices of green vegetables have started to rise. After landslides in Jawangkhola and Chitwan Tuinkhola in Dhading under the Nagadhunga-Narayangadh road, the main gateway to the valley, prices have increased due to not enough vegetables entering the valley.

According to Kalimati Fruit and Vegetable Market Development Committee, up to 700 tons of vegetables should be imported in the current season. But the arrival is low. It has not been entered as per the demand of the valley. As a result, the wholesale price of vegetables has increased.

'Difficulty in supply is the reason for the recent increase in prices. Vegetables are brought in through other channels but the main channel is blocked. Vegetables have not been able to come in easily," said Binay Shrestha, information officer of the committee, "this has helped to increase the price."  According to the price analysis data of

committee, the price of cucumber (hybrid) has increased by 71.20 percent in a week. The price of cucumber, which was sold at Rs 24 per kg (wholesale price) on October 4, has increased to Rs 43. Along with cucumbers, the prices of all green vegetables including cabbage, potato, dried onion, cabbage, cabbage, bodi, ghiusimi, matrakosa, titekarela, gourd, green parsley, okra have increased.

On October 4, the price of Persian green (Lamcho) was Rs 35 per kg. On Thursday (Oct 9), the price increased by 59 percent to Rs 56. The price of Bhindi which is 75 rupees per kg has increased to 84 rupees, the price of rayo greens which is 75 rupees per kg has increased to 180 rupees, the price of palungo greens which is 90 rupees per kg has increased to 122 rupees.

'184 tons of green vegetables arrived by 7 am on Thursday. 363 tons including vegetables, fruits, fish etc. came. Even on Wednesday, only 223 tons of fresh vegetables arrived, all in all, only 489 tons were brought in," said Shrestha, "Even looking at Tuesday's arrival, it is not enough. Only 617 tons of vegetables, fruits, and fish came.'

On Monday, only 810 tons of vegetables were imported. 939 tons of fruit and fish were imported. But on Saturday only 518 tons of vegetables and fruits were brought in. As a result, Shrestha says that the market price has increased a bit.  According to the

committee, the price of Kanye mushroom has increased by 10 percent to 184 rupees per kilo. Broccoli has increased by 21 percent to 182 rupees, local beef has increased by 5 percent to 43 rupees per kg and tunnel beef has increased by 9 percent to 55 rupees per kg.

Vegetables are brought into the valley from Dhading, Nuwakot, Kavre, Chitwan, Makwanpur and Terai districts. Vegetables are also imported from India. According to the committee, due to problems in the main ports coming from Terai and India, not enough vegetables are being imported. The price of red potato has increased by 14 percent to Rs 36, the price of dry onion (Indian) has increased by 17 percent to Rs 42.25 per kg.

The price of Banda rose from Rs 44 per kilo a week ago to Rs 48, while the price of dried beans rose from Rs 111 to Rs 138. The price of Ghiusimi, which costs 95 rupees per kilo, has increased to 130 rupees, and the price of matrakosa, which costs 85 rupees per kilo, has increased to 120 rupees.

When the price increases in the wholesale, the retail price also increases rapidly. Retail prices vary from shop to shop. According to the experts, there is a practice of collecting the vegetables from the farmers by the middleman, the others bring them to the wholesale market and even the retail shops bring them by vehicle without going to the wholesaler. Thus, when there are different levels, the price is determined arbitrarily.  There is also no consistency in the shutter fares of

businessmen. As a result, businessmen have been charging high fees from consumers. But the government has not monitored the market. Lately, only instructions have been given to improve monitoring. Madhav Timilsina, President of the Consumer Rights Research Forum said that the market has been looted.

There is a lot of possibility that common people will be cheated in the mouth of Chadbad. At this time, there is also a need for monitoring, but recently the monitoring has been slow, fraudsters have been given immunity only by giving instructions," said Timilsina, "when the fraudsters are exempted, the morale of the businessmen who commit fraud has increased.

The vegetables brought in at the Kalimati fruit and vegetable market meet the demand of 70 to 75 percent of the valley. The rest, Balkhu, Balaju, Tukucha, Koteshwar, Chabahil and other vegetable markets have been growing.
