Stating that there has been a huge financial loss in the public and private sectors due to the agitation, Finance Minister Khanal said that reconstruction will be carried out through cutting inappropriate expenses and austerity and economic reform programs will be accelerated.
The Ministry of Finance has held a meeting with the heads of local donor agencies. In the meeting held at the Ministry of Finance on Friday, the recent political changes in Nepal and the economic direction and priorities adopted by the new government were discussed.
Ambassadors of various countries in Nepal, heads and representatives of United Nations agencies in Nepal, representatives of missions and heads and representatives of multilateral and bilateral development partners participated in the meeting.
In that meeting, Finance Minister Rameshwar Prasad Khanal thanked the development partners for their significant contribution to the economic and social development of Nepal and highlighted the immediate priorities of the current government.
The interim government formed after the recent changes in Nepal is committed to establishing transparency, accountability, corruption-free society and the rule of law according to the wishes of the youth. On behalf of the development partners, United Nations resident coordinator, UNHCR representative, ambassadors of Japan, South Korea, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Finland and Australia for Nepal, representatives of India and Norway, representatives of the European Union, representatives of the World Food Program and others gave their views on behalf of the development partners. They were aware of the current situation in Nepal and agreed to the policies and programs taken by the current government. They mentioned that the development partners will continue the ongoing projects and are always ready to cooperate with the Government of Nepal for conducting additional programs.
