Sunkoshi-Marin and Bheri-Babai contracts cannot be kept as they are

Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development Kulman Ghising has said that the contracts of national pride Sunkoshi-Marin and Bheri-Babai multi-purpose projects cannot be kept as they are.

Minister Ghising said that there is no option but to break the contract of the project and proceed from a new direction while discussing with the secretary of the ministry, the director general of the irrigation department, the heads of both projects, consultants and builders in the ministry.

Due to the unnatural delay in the construction of both projects, Minister Ghisingh discussed with all the parties involved in the construction. He urged all concerned parties to be serious about the delay in these projects which contribute to the country's economy by providing irrigation to the Terai region and increasing the productivity of agriculture.

It seems that one side blames the other side, the builders are looking for loopholes, the project is giving such an environment - how will the construction progress in such a situation? Billions of rupees have been invested by the state, if we only calculate the interest, it is billions. Where did the financial analysis when starting the project go? What happened to the return?'' he warned.

He added, 'The tunnel construction of both projects has been completed. However, the project has been stalled due to the inability to build structures such as dams and power plants. There is a shortage of water for irrigation in Terai-Madhes. In such a situation, the project cannot run. If the builders had been active, the work could have been completed. There is no intention to work. Therefore, there is no reason to extend the deadline. Let's break all contracts and move forward in a new way.

The construction of the Bheri-Babai tunnel was completed in August 2077. In July 2076, a contract was signed with Gangdong Yutian-Raman JV for the construction of dam and power house. The physical progress of the project is 57 percent. In Sunkoshi-Marin, the progress of the construction of dams, power plants, etc. is only 10 percent, while the contract period is almost 60 percent over. The builder of this project is Patel-Raman JV.
